Building on ModernETL 2.0, the new release combines an expanded modern data conversion, early case assessment and culling engine with a self-service Discovery Portal, giving legal teams greater control over how they search, filter, preview and extract modern data — reducing downstream review costs and enabling ECA without a review platform seat.
Sandline Global today announced the release of ModernETL 3.0, the latest version of its proprietary solution for converting complex modern data into a review-ready format for eDiscovery platforms like RelativityOne and Everlaw.
ModernETL helps legal teams normalize data from mobile devices, collaboration platforms, email and custom sources; reconstruct conversations across platforms and identities; and apply universal threading, search, analytics and targeted culling before promoting data downstream. ModernETL 2.0 established this foundation with AI-supported workflows and flexible conversion of modern and custom data formats.
ModernETL 3.0 builds on those capabilities with an expanded processing engine and a new self-service Discovery Portal — creating a more direct path from collection through ECA, data reduction and downstream review, and helping legal teams investigate earlier while avoiding review bottlenecks.
All Sources, One Pipeline
ModernETL 3.0 brings a broad and expanding range of modern data sources into a single processing pipeline, including UFDR, Slack, Microsoft Teams PST and HTML, iCloud, Oxygen Forensics, Symphony, ModeOne, SnippetSentry, CustomDAT, Procore and Intercom. New or previously unknown sources can typically be onboarded in as little as three business days.
The release also introduces file-hash and body-hash deduplication, helping legal teams identify redundant content earlier in the discovery process. Native Procore support extends ModernETL’s capabilities for construction disputes and investigations, including defensible file-triplet output for downstream workflows.
Self-Service ECA Without a Review Platform Seat
At the center of ModernETL 3.0 is the Discovery Portal, a secure, self-service environment giving authorized users direct access to their processed data from UFDR, Microsoft Teams, Slack and other supported sources.
From a personalized dashboard, clients can create new projects, view assigned matters and jobs, monitor per-matter progress, and assess key metrics such as conversation, message, attachment, participant and date-range information — no Relativity or Everlaw seat required.
Within the portal, legal teams can:
- Browse complete conversation threads in chronological order
- Search globally across message content, with keyword and phrase matches highlighted
- Search attachments by filename and file type
- Filter conversations by date range, participant, keyword or attachment presence
- Filter individual messages by sender, recipient or attachment filename
- Combine multiple filters to isolate the information most relevant to the matter
- Move between conversations without leaving the thread view
These capabilities let teams assess and cull modern data in context, rather than reviewing disconnected messages or moving an unnecessarily broad population into a traditional review platform.
Preview, Cull and Extract
Before creating a processing set, clients can preview filtered results, QC counts, size and applied filters, and review estimated export size — then create named subsets containing only the conversations and content that should move forward.
Selected data can be exported as RSMF or court-admissible PDF, individually or as a ZIP package. PDF exports include matter name, date range, and participant metadata.
Comprehensive audit logging records, logins, logouts, job access, extractions and exports with timestamps, supporting a transparent and defensible workflow.
ModernETL 3.0 also introduces customer-level account management and matter-level access controls — Sandline can manage users by customer, assign customers to specific matters, and immediately revoke portal access when required. Sandline’s internal teams retain visibility into client-created processing sets, allowing them to monitor progress, provide responsive support, and remain accountable for the integrity of the overall workflow.
Together, these capabilities unlock low-cost culling, filtering and early case assessment prior to moving to higher-cost ECA and active review hosting.
